- Contracting with McKinsey to develop a strategy for the current economic reality and search for ways to develop.
- Comprehensive evaluation of the work of the port of Beirut’s silos.
- Contracting with PWC company in order to identify problems and difficulties and take measures, most notably holding the perpetrating users accountable, and approving the exclusive unloading of wheat coming to the port of Beirut (a positive impact on imports).
- Taking a decision to purify the trucks carrying grain.
- Introducing and developing the silos and undertaking investment projects such as administrative automation and preventive maintenance.
- Amending the collective work contract between the ministry and the users syndicate and approving the structure.
- Consumer protection and market control through:
- Increasing awareness and guidance campaigns on consumer rights and handling complaints.
- Activating control work on food quality and safety, prices, and compliance of commercial establishments with the provisions of the Consumer Protection Law.
- Preparing the regulatory project that regulates the work of the National Council for Consumer Protection.
- Intellectual property protection through:
- Preparing the necessary documents and legislation to join a number of international registration systems.
- Reconsidering and developing draft laws on trademarks, fees, industrial designs and international agreements.
- Following up on the negotiations pertaining to Lebanon’s accession to the World Trade Organization in relation to intellectual property.
- Activating cooperation with customs administration at the port with the aim of combating counterfeiting crimes.
- Developing foreign trade and following up on external files and agreements (Lebanon’s accession to The Free Trade Area Agreement between the Arab Mediterranean countries, the Euro-Mediterranean Regional Agreement on differential rules of origin, the Free Trade Area Agreement proposed by Mercosur, the meetings of the Economic and Social Council of the League of Arab States, the European Union).
- Developing internal trade through the development of small and medium-sized enterprises’ sector, and the partnership between the public and private sectors.
- Developing work in the Directorate general of Economy and trade and increasing its productivity (developing buildings and human resources, strengthening the structure and cooperating with international organizations).
- In the General Directorate of cereals and sugar beets:
- Receiving wheat and barley for the 2017 season instead of giving compensation, and conducting a satellite survey of the lands planted with wheat and barley using remote sensing technology (which led to controlling the process of subsidizing this cultivation and achieving great savings on the state treasury).
- Imposing mandatory periodical laboratory analysis on locally produced flour.
- Regulating the process of importing wheat flour, imposing high standards and specifications, and conducting laboratory analysis for all imported flour (which led to raising the quality of this flour).
- Working on a bill to update and develop the General Directorate of Grains.
- Warranty Bodies Oversight Committee:
The guarantee of renewal of contracts for medical insurance and the inability to selectively modify the terms and benefits of the insurance contract for a specific individual.
